A Message from the President: September 2009

We have a championship year ahead of us.

As we jump into the 2009-2010 PAMA program year, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation as a Philadelphia AMA member and let you know what’s in store for you in the coming year.  Your new PAMA Board has wasted no time building an aggressive plan to help you to succeed in some very challenging times.   We’re focusing on reaching an entirely new level in professional education and skill development as well as going beyond your expectations for professional networking to help you grow your career.

Your success is our success so look to PAMA to be your resource and partner in marketing excellence.

Starting in September, our program calendar kicks-off with our regular monthly PAMA event, continues with a networking and career development program and culminates with the Disney Keys to Excellence, a leadership program with lessons captured from years of management excellence from the Walt Disney World Resorts.

Whether you need to know how to capitalize on the current social media craze and other e-marketing trends, where to find the best sources for information on marketing strategy or what innovative tactics have proven to be effective in doing more with less, we’ve got the programs and contacts that will help you get the job done and excel as a professional marketer, including:

·         Our annual Super Bowl Smack Down

·         The Marketer of the Year (MOTY) awards,

·         The new Bellwether Ball, an exciting event that will give attendees a look at the new technologies, trends and tactics that smart marketers will be talking about—and using—in 2010 and beyond.

·         Skills development boot camps and workshops on social media, branding, marketing ROI and market research (as part of the new Pharma-Biotech Special Interest Group)

·         New expert panel discussions and a new marketing skills challenge

All in all, we’re targeting over 30 educational, skills development and networking events for the 2009-2010 program year.  Bookmark the News and Events page at www.amaphilly.org and you’ll have immediate access to the full calendar of events.

PAMA is getting a whole new look, to go with our new feel!

In the coming weeks your dashboard to marketing excellence [www.amaphilly.org] will undergo a dramatic redesign.  You’ll have faster access to our extensive calendar of high-impact programs, useful news and marketing resources.   This facelift is one of our top priorities so you no longer have to search for specific information, rather you have all the PAMA information you need at your fingertips.  Along with the redesign of the PAMA web site, our email communications will be streamlined to provide more relevant information via:

·         a monthly newsletter dropping in the first week of every month,

·         email updates, on alternating weeks, to let you know what programs and resources are coming up.

We ended the 2008–2009 programming year with a BANG . . . we’re continuing the momentum in 2009-2010!

Our departing board did a great job.  Did you get a chance to participate in the new member networking breakfast series, our successful speed networking event, the exemplary Marketer of the Year awards ceremony and the much anticipated inaugural event for our new Pharmaceutical and Biotech Marketing Special Interest Group (Pharma-Biotech SIG)?  The excitement and anticipation for the 2009-2010 programming year would not be possible without the efforts and dedication of the 2008-2009 board.  I’d like to thank the outgoing board and express my sincere gratitude for all that was accomplished: Dawn Pelon, President; Robert Bershad, Secretary/Treasurer; Kiersten Hafer, VP Programming; Myriam Siftar, VP Membership; Valerie Georgantas, VP Volunteers; Josh Miller, VP Communications (Co-Chair); Erika Schell-Rompre, VP Communications (Co-Chair); Traci Browne – VP, Sponsorships and External Affairs; Harry Shrank – VP, Collegiate Relations (and PAMA board patriarch).

Coming Soon – a request for all PAMA members to ratify the revised Chapter Constitution.

One final note – to more effectively manage the chapter, the Chapter Constitution has been modified.  Ratifying the new constitution requires an affirmative vote by the members of the Philadelphia Chapter.  Please expect an email to this effect over the next week or so, with the call to action to vote affirmatively.  Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

We’re excited about the coming year because it’s all about helping you achieve your goals.

My next message to you directly will come in the form of the PAMA President’s Blog.  I’ll  introduce you to this year’s board, a group of seasoned marketing executives with backgrounds in CPG, Agency, Publishing, Marketing Strategy, Product Strategy, Sales, Operations and Market Research,  and layout our commitment to you with more specifics.

I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event and I invite you to contact me at president@amaphilly.org if you’d like to share your feedback or you feel that I can assist you in any way.

Best regards,

Craig Barton, President, 2009-2010, PAMA
